Faculty Services

• RefWorks is a web-based citation management tool used to create and manage research bibliographies and citations. It offers more than 400 formatting styles, including many specific styles required by journals for publication of your research. You may add citations manually or import them from UIW-owned resources or from Google Scholar. Content may be shared with others who have RefWorks accounts. Initially accounts must be created on campus with a UIW email address. Once your account is created, however, you may access the content from anywhere with an Internet connection. • EndNote, like Refworks, is a citation manger. It is part of our Web of Science subscription but for convenience we have linked to it on our Quick Link menu.  With EndNote, references may be added directly from Web of Science and stored in folders using a variety of reference styles.

• Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a free service that allows UIW users to borrow books and obtain copies of articles not available in the UIW Library from other libraries throughout the United States. Our interlibrary loan service is meant to provide UIW users with the necessary materials for their education and research.
• Once you have exhausted all ways to locate the article via UIW resources and for free online, use our Interlibrary Loan system (ILLiad) to request the item. We will locate the item and advise you when it arrives, either in the library or electronically. More about Interlibrary Loan
• TexShare is a program of the Texas State Library that allows residents to borrow books from other Texas libraries, both public and academic. Students may obtain a TexShare card from the Reference Desk or their subject liaison librarian. A TexShare card, along with your UIW ID, allows you to check out materials directly from another library. Users are responsible for returning the materials to the lending library. TexShare cards must be renewed each semester. Learn more about the program at TexShare Card Program.

• Faculty may borrow books for a full semester or summer term. See Circulation Policies for more information.    
• Audiovisual material borrowing is limited to seven days, three items at a time (multi-part titles are counted separately).
• Faculty may designate proxy borrowers (student assistants) to check out library materials on their behalf by completing a Proxy Borrowing Form
• Faculty may also borrow laptops at the circulation desk for seven days.

• Research Consultations: Request a research consultation with a subject liaison librarian to help identify additional sources of information (including grey literature), develop search strategies, set up search alerts and manage bibliographic content.
• Citation Search Assistance: Librarians also assist faculty in learning how to determine who has cited their published works and how to identify the top journals in their disciplines. 
• Program Reviews and Accreditation Reports: Librarians can assist faculty in their program review or accreditation efforts by providing information regarding the resources available in the library in their specific subject area.

Electronic document delivery is available for faculty. The library staff will make a copy of an article or a small section of a physical book (less than 10% of the entire book) within the collection upon request. Request the article or book chapter using our interlibrary loan service (ILLiad).  Within 24 hours of the request, the copy will be sent to you via email.

You may print, copy or scan documents in the library using the new UIW Print system. The cost will be charged to your departmental account in your school. More information on UIW Print is available here. UIW Print

• Library staff will pull physical resources in our collection (books and AV) and hold them for faculty members at the Circulation Desk when these items are requested via our library search tool using the Advanced Search feature.
• Faculty must sign into their library account (My Account) using their UIW credentials.
• Next, they conduct search, select the items they wish us to pull and click on the Request button. 
• An email is sent when the items are available for pick up.  The items are kept at the Circulation Desk for 24 hours. A UIW ID is required to check items out.

Faculty are encouraged to submit requests for library resources. Please contact your department’s Discipline Liaison Librarian to recommend materials for library purchase.
