Our Services

We provide counseling services to students enrolled at the University of the Incarnate Word and its affiliated high schools. We also make contributions to the university community in a variety of ways. Our services include the following:

Service Description Who is it for? How can I request this service?
Mediation Service that attempts to establish communication between people having disputes and assists them in finding a mutually acceptable solution. Faculty, Staff, Administrators, and Students Call, come by, or email one of the administrators in Counseling Services.
Behavior Management Coaching/Training Service for faculty/administrators/ staff that focuses on preventing and managing behaviors in the classroom and promoting positive interactions amongst students and between students and other professionals. Faculty, Staff, and Administrators. Call, come by, or email one of the administrators in Counseling Services.
Presentations/ Workshops Interactive and informational workshops to educate the university community on counseling topics, mental health, human development/ learning, and diversity issues. Faculty, Staff, Administrators, and Student Groups. Call, come by, email, or complete electronic form online.
Individual Counseling >Individual therapy where student can set personal goals and engage in a variety of therapeutic strategies to reach these goals. Primarily for students. May be open to faculty or staff under special circumstances. Call or come by the office to set an intake appointment.
Couples/ Family Counseling Couples or family therapy where goals for conflict resolution/ relationship improvement are established and worked toward as a couple or with family. Primarily for students. May be open to faculty or staff under special circumstances. Call or come by the office to set an intake appointment
Group counseling (semi-structured) Open group counseling service that focuses on educating a group of people on a targeted topic using psychoeducational techniques and experiential activities. Faculty, Staff, Administrators, and Students. >Groups, days and times will be announced on the website. If you want to request a group service, please complete electronic request form, email or come by the Counseling office to speak to one of the staff.
Brief case consultation Service where university professionals consult with Counseling Services staff about referral to outside mental health resources. Faculty, Staff, and Administrators. Call or come by the Counseling Center to set appointment.
Crisis Intervention Brief assessment/ de-escalation intervention with student experiencing an emotional crisis. Faculty, Staff, and Administrators. Call or come by the counseling center.
Targeted Assessment Brief behavioral assessment for students enrolled in professional programs who are in need of monitoring. Faculty and Administrators. Call, come by, or email one of the administrators in Counseling Services.
